Satya- truth/ true essence / true nature.

The first Yama is Ahimsa-compassion/non-harming. Ahimsa is the first one for a reason, it sets the foundation of compassion and love for all the other Yamas. They cannot exist without that foundation. That being said, we can not live in Satya, truth, without compassion. We cannot make actions that align with out truth without love and compassion.
